Introduction

Passara Divisional Secretary's Division of Badulla District covers a distance of 124.11 km. The Passara Divisional Secretary's Division south of the Badulla District is bounded north by Lunugala and Meegahakiula Divisional Secretariats, South by Ella and Badalkumbura Divisional Secret Divisions belonging to the Monaragala District and administratively limited to Lunugala and Badalkumbura Divisional Secretariats in the West.

According to the grid plan in the Passara Divisional Secretariat Division, it is 234.5 km long and 249.9 km long and 185.5 km East. The total extent of the district is 286100 hectares, out of which the entire land area of the Passara Divisional Secretariat is 3.85%. The highest area of the division is covered with the Namunukula mountain range with 1538 meters and is at a height of 462 m in the southern section of the minimum tall area. Overall, the height of the Passara Divisional Secretariat Division is 765-1230 m.

History of Passara

Passara is a small town in the Badulla District of the Uva Province. The town is located about 17 km (11 mi) from Badulla to the Peradeniya-Badulla-Chenkaladi road.

It is surrounded by the hills that surrounds the loggaloya, the Menik Ganga, the Mirissa Oya, the ravola and the Kirindi Oya in the middle of the tributaries of Namunukula. An ancient temple built by King Sri Wickrama Rajasinha is located in the Pallegama area in Passara. This is Passara Raja Viharaya.

Passara Divisional Secretariat is located in the Eastern side of the Central Hills in terms of the geographical regions. Although mainly situated in the Dry Zone of the hill country, with an average elevation of 469-1230 m, meanwhile, the maximum height of 1538 m extends south-west from the southwest to 1384 m. Divisional Secretariat with a distinctive topography due to its shaped valleys Has been created. The lowest elevation of the area is found near the North Western boundary.

The drainage pattern can be represented by the flow of two major rivers. In the interior of the area, there is an exit from the northwestern boundary of the Loggalla Oya, which is fed by tributaries gathering in different directions. The Menik River extends from the southern boundary and consists of tributaries.

The main use of water for paddy cultivation in 1507 hectares of land other than mainly human consumption has been the use of rivers in the tributaries. There are no large scale water schemes and small canals that are built along the tributaries and small canals provide water for the cultivation. As a whole, the water resources are abundant due to the annual rainfall of 2441.43 mm and the catchment area spread throughout the divisional secretariat area.
